Babies can be given solid foods by the age of six months.

But it can be very tricky to choose the safest and best nutritious foods for your baby when the time arrives.

Babies should get only breast milk till he/she attains the age of six months, but certain cereals can be introduced to them after the baby is four month old.

All other types of solid food items must be strictly given to them only after six months.

Here are several homemade baby foods that can serve the best nutrition to your baby and also pamper their taste buds when they take their first bites.

Vegetarian homemade baby food recipes

Carrot and sweet potato puree

This recipe is a sweet and nutritious puree which is very easy and simple to make.

Take a cup of finely sliced carrot and one cup of small cubes of sweet potato. Take all of the carrots and the sweet potatoes in a cooking pot and add water to it.

Boil the vegetables for approximately 15 minutes keeping the lid partly closed.

After that boil the carrots separately again for 5 minutes to soften it more.

Blend the vegetables after they cool down with a blender to form a thick puree.

Green beans and carrot puree

Carrots and green beans are a rich source of vitamins that make them a great baby food for six months old babies.

The vegetables must be boiled on medium flame for about 25 minutes with the lid partly closed.

The vegetables must be strained out and left to cool down.

They must, then, be blended them after adding some water to form a thick puree.

Carrot rice

It is a great combination of carrots that are rich in vitamins and rice that’s rich in carbohydrates.

Add chopped carrots to the washed rice in a pot and add water to the mixture.

Cook the mixture for about 25 minutes on medium flame until the carrots and rice are soft.

Mash it with a fork so that the baby can easily eat it.

Sweet potato and squash mash

This will be one of the sweetest first foods for your baby that will impress his taste buds.

Turn on a medium flame and put the sweet potatoes to boil for about 15-20 minutes and pour in water till it reaches about one inch of from the vessel bottom.

Put the steamer grill into the vessel keeping the squash cubes on the top.

Let the squash cubes steam on medium flame for about 10 minutes. Mash the sweet potatoes and the squash in a vessel before you give it to your baby.

Non-vegetarian Homemade Baby Food Recipes

Chicken Broth

It is a tasty non-vegetarian baby food that is easy to prepare.

Take two cups of sliced chicken (with bone) and add 5-6 cups water. Put them in a pressure cooker and let the chicken cook till one whistle.

Next, turn the flame to a simmer and allow the chicken to cook for approximately 25-30 minutes.

Let it cool and strain out the solid pieces and collect the chicken broth, then feed it to the baby.

Potato and meat puree

To prepare this hearty meal for your six months old baby, boil the meat in a cooking vessel for 30-35 minutes on medium flame with the lid partially closed.

Boil the potatoes in a separate container for 20-25 minutes.

Blend the cooked meat and the potatoes after they have cooled down to achieve the desired results.

Finger millet and chicken porridge

Finger millet or ragi is known to be a good source of minerals and chicken is rich in micronutrients.

To prepare this hearty meal for your baby, add water to a container and mix the flour of finger millet to it and boil the mixture.

Let the boiled mixture cook in simmer for 10 minutes; stir it so that it has no lumps.

Boil the chicken in a different container for 25 minutes. Mix the cooked chicken and the ragi and blend till they mix evenly.

Meat and rice porridge

This combination is a great lunchtime food for the baby. Prepare it by boiling the meat for 25 minutes at least.

Let it cool down, then transfer it to another vessel, add rice and flour to it.

Boil the mixture and turn it to simmer for about 10 minutes. Keep stirring in order to prevent lumps.

After cooking the mixture for about 10-15 minutes, add the cooked pieces of meat into it and mash the mixture to feed the smooth mixture to your baby.

Chicken and beetroot Puree

To prepare this, start by boiling the beetroot for about 20 minutes keeping the lid partly closed, on a medium flame.

Pour the stock of beetroot to a different vessel and add the pieces of chicken to it, boil the mixture on a medium flame for about 20-25 minutes.

Put the mixture in a mixer and blend the mixture until it is smooth enough for the baby to have it.

Fruit-based homemade baby food recipes

Blueberry Applesauce

Boil the apples along with their skin about for 15-20 minutes and let it cool once it is soft enough.

Add water in another cooking vessel and steam the blueberry in a steamer basket for about 15-20 minutes.

Cool them down and blend the mixture of apples and blueberries till you obtain the thin puree that you want.

Avocado and Banana mash

Prepare this creamy and sweet baby food by putting the avocado and the banana in a bowl and mashing them and add water to it to make it thin, if needed.

Feed the baby when it is ready.

Apple and pear mash

Prepare this dish by boiling the pears and the apples together for about 20-25 minutes in a cooking vessel.

Sieve out the fruits and allow them to cool, and then blend the mixture after adding some water to it.

Feed the preparation to your baby when the preferred consistency is achieved.

The quantity of the food that the baby will have depends upon the baby’s preference and age.

Two tablespoons of meat, fruit, and vegetables each day is enough in the initial days.

Make sure the food that they are receiving has enough nutrients to help them grow healthily.
